WWE 'Smackdown Live' : Finn Balor needs stiches, Headbangers return, Daniel Bryan responds to the Miz, Nikki Bella becomes a filler!

Smackdown Live kept kind of chugging along. There were no major surprises or even any particularly interesting matches, but the blue show keeps trucking along with easy-to-watch wrestling. It will deliver a fun use of your time is a comforting feeling.

The show opened with a footage of last week’s The Miz’s promo on “Talking Smack.” But Miz cut another promo when Maryse and Miz were already in the ring. He also went on to say that the fans were cowards and they were cheering for the wrong people.

Slater and Rhyno advanced to the semifinals by beating the bleeping Headbangers, who made their return to a WWE ring after sixteen years.

Carmella continuing to get heel heat is a pleasant discovery, and Alexa Bliss really is coming into her own on the main roster. NikkiBella just does not work as a face, Becky Lynch should be the top good gal on the blue brand,
It all comes down to two main things, really: better, more economical writing and better use of talent from top to bottom.

WWE Legend and Hall Of Famer Mr Fuji, Harry Fujiwara dies at 82

WWE Hall of Famer Mr. Fuji died at the age of 82 on Monday.

Harry Fujiwara, better known as Fuji, was a Hawaii native who portrayed a Japanese wrestler and later on gained notoriety for throwing salt in opponent’s eyes.

WWE issued a statement - His career will be remembered by different generations for different reasons but Mr. Fuji, whether as a Superstar or manager, is one of the most entertaining performers in the history of WWE.”
Fujiwara briefly left WWF twice during the ’70s but returned for good in 1981 just after the company rebranded itself as World Wrestling Federation (WWF). He transitioned away from ring competition to performing as a manager in 1985. He retired for good in 1996, and was commemorated as one of the greatest managers in WWE history.

Mr. Fuji was inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.

WWE executive Triple H posted a picture of Fuji on his Twitter account and wrote, “An unforgettable character in front of the camera and an even better one behind it. Rest in Peace, Mr. Fuji.”

Brock Lesnar Vs. Randy Orton, AJ Styles Push, Daniel Bryan's Future and more WWE business!

Controversial finish to Randy Orton vs. Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam was apparently “negotiated” beforehand. It was reported that about an hour or two before they went to the ring, there was a backstage meeting on the finish with Triple H, Mark Carrano, Lesnar and possibly Paul Heyman. For what it’s worth, the finish had been greatly debated, discussed and “negotiated” backstage before the match. Orton originally believed he and Lesnar were going to have a regular match.

Although it indeed appears that the finish to Orton vs.Lesnar played out exactly like it was supposed to, that doesn’t mean it should have. Lesnar is probably going to be gone for most of the remainder of 2016 and may not even be seen before The Royal Rumble in January 2017, so at the very least, WWE should have let Orton have a competitive match with him, even if it still ended with a loss!

With this WWE’s current title picture looks a lot different than originally planned because they initially planned on putting the Universal title on AJ Styles.

Also the question is whether Daniel Bryan will wrestle again? Million dollar question? Bryan wasn’t ready to retire when he did earlier this year, so as long as he’s still in his prime, there will continue to be speculation about him returning to the ring.

Mick Foley Talks about staying in touch with The Rock and WWE Womens Division - Sasha Banks and Charlotte

Mick Foley said while promoting “Holy Foley” and quoted to Rolling Stone -
If he stays in touch with The Rock:

“What’s funny is our daughters keep in better touch than we do. Like I’ll hear my daughter say, ‘The Rock’s going to be on Raw today,’ and it’s a complete secret. ‘His daughter just texted me.’ I get a message from him every once in awhile. And I’ve got a great rock and roll Rock story.

His past criticism of female wrestlers in WWE and if he’s made changes on that front:

I was critical but it was always critical criticism, when I came on board Stephanie and I agreed that as the big promoters of the Women’s wrestling evolution we needed to draft the women very high for RAW so we drafted Charlotte second and Sasha sixth. Moving on we will get bigger and better.

WWE SummerSlam 2016: Why the Match Card Order made the show collapse!

Was it Sasha, was Charlotte, oh wait a minute, it was Cena, nooo it was AJ Styles, no was Roman Reigns? Maybe we thought Nikki Bella!! This is what the card order did!!

While the show was entertaining, the ending of the show was relatively disappointing. However, what some people have rightly pointed out was the erratic nature of how the card shaped up. Enzo and Cass did a tremendous job of kicking off the show and getting the crowd warmed up. But suddenly, from there, the card appeared to have been haphazardly shuffled like a deck of playing cards. The second bout on the main show ended up being the Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte rematch. Sasha and Charlotte definitely deserved to be higher up on the card after their incredible title match on Monday NightRaw.

Miz and Crews got unfortunately sandwiched between Sasha vs. Charlotte and perhaps the match of the night, and arguably the match of the entire SummerSlam weekend, in John Cena vs. AJ Styles. SummerSlam featured two matches that would end in a disqualification and a no contest: New Day vs. The Club for the Tag Team titles and Roman Reigns vs. Rusev for the United States title. The Tag Team title match and the United States title match could have certainly come before both Sasha vs. Charlotte and Cena vs. Styles.

Additionally, WWE returned to their old ways in putting a women’s wrestling match between the WWE Championship and the UniversalChampionship match to allow the crowd to take a breather. Becky, Naomi, and Carmella vs. the returning Nikki Bella, Natalya, and Alexa Bliss suffered from a drained crowd that was still trying to get back into the show after Cena vs. Styles and a disappointing match between Ambrose and Ziggler.

Nikki Bella to become the first SMACKDOWN women's champion at WWE BACKLASH

Over the past year, WWE has done an outstanding job of making the Women’s Division the attraction it deserves to be for the female athletes. Based on the work that was done by NXT’s women, along with what was accomplished by AJ Lee and Nikki Bella on the main roster, the improvement to women’s wrestling has become one of the most important developments on WWEprogramming .

Plan is that Nikki Bella won’t be holding the SmackDownWomen’s Championship for very long.

Those plans can always change, but it seems she’d only be helping to establish the new title for SmackDown and then dropping it to someone else before the end of 2016. Nikki is still establishing herself, so she’ll need to do that before becoming champion. `

Nikki Bella being the most accomplished woman on the roster, makes her the top choice to become the leader of their Women’s Division now that she is back in a WWE ring. It seems like the future of women’s wrestling on SmackDown will go through NikkiBella. Nikki Bella being on top is as good a choice as any WWE could make.

WWE Predictions 2016: Will Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens Or Big Cass Become The Universal Champion?

WWE Predictions 2016: Will Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens Or Big Cass Become The Universal Champion?

Less than 24 hours after winning the first ever WWE Universal Championship match at SummerSlam 2016, Finn Balor was forced to drop the title because of an injury that will keep him out for approximately six months. Now, WWE has to find a new superstar to hold the top belt on “Monday Night Raw.”

After a series of qualifying matches on Monday, four wrestlers have a chance to win the championship. Kevin Owens, Roman Reigns, Big Cass and Seth Rollins will compete in a Fatal-4-Way on the Aug. 29 edition of “Raw,” and the winner will be awarded the now-vacant belt.

Who is the favorite to become the next WWE Universal Champion?

While there are four contenders, there are only three realistic choices. Big Cass has virtually no chance to win the belt, and he’ll probably end up being the wrestler that gets pinned to end the match. He’s still part of a tag team with Enzo Amore, and they’ll win the tag team titles before either one becomes a champion on their own.

Had this match occurred three months ago, Reigns would be the leading candidate to win. WWE has pushed him harder than any other superstar in the last two years, and he won the WWE World Championship three times between November of last year and WrestleMania 32 on April 3.

The show featured the unveiling of two new titles, the beginning of a tournament, and bad blood between AJ Styles and Dolph Ziggler. Be back here tomorrow for the full Best and Worst of Smackdown column.

WWE Smackdown Live Results:

— The cold open for the show had Baron Corbin, Erick Rowan, Apollo Crews and Rhyno talking in the locker room while Dolph Ziggler sulked on a chair. AJ Styles entered and bragged about beating up John Cena, then mocked Ziggler. Ziggler head-butted them and they had a pull-apart brawl.

— The women’s and tag team divisions were in the ring. Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan entered to introduce the new Smackdown Women’s and Tag Team Championships. They will both be awarded at Backlash, and a tournament for the tag titles will begin tonight. Heath Slater showed up and promised to find a partner and win the tag titles. McMahon and Bryan agreed that if he can win the entire tournament, he will win a spot on the roster. AJ Styles attempted to interrupt, but was jumped from behind by Ziggler.

1. Becky Lynch defeated Alexa Bliss. Natalya and Naomi sat in on commentary for this match. Lynch won via submission with the Disarmer.

2. Tag Team Title Tournament: The Usos defeated The Ascension. The Usos won a fast-paced match with the Samoan Splash for the pinfall.

— AJ Styles came to the ring, proclaimed himself the new face that runs this place and said he should be the No. 1 contender to the WWE World Championship. Ziggler attempted to storm the ring. Daniel Bryan came out and said they both deserve to be the No. 1 contender, but it’s clear they want to fight. Bryan announced Ziggler vs. Styles in the main event. If Styles wins, he faces Ambrose at Backlash for the world title. If Ziggler wins, the match becomes a triple threat.

— Carmella and Nikki Bella made their entrances for a match against each other. Renee Young interviewed Nikki Bella about coming back from injury before the match, but mid-interview, Carmella jumped her from behind. Carmella hit a new Flatliner finisher and Nikki’s own faceplant finisher and the match was unable to take place. Carmella mocked Nikki from the top of the ramp.

Randy Orton came to the ring and talked about being in the fight of his life against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. He was interrupted by Bray Wyatt. Wyatt threatened him, then disappeared.

— Backstage, Shane McMahon said his issue with Brock Lesnar was far from over.

— After getting turned down by The Miz and Arn Anderson, Rhyno agreed to become Heath Slater’s tag team partner.

3. Tag Team Tournament: American Alpha defeated Breezango. American Alpha won their first round matchup with the Grand Amplitude.

4. AJ Styles defeated Dolph Ziggler. Dean Ambrose sat in on commentary for this match. Styles won with the Styles Clash, so he will face Ambrose one-on-one for the world title at Backlash. He got in Ambrose’s face after the match.

Randy Orton injury update

Randy Orton injury update

WWE.com has learned that Randy Orton has received 10 staples to close a laceration on his forehead following the brutal assault by Brock Lesnar that resulted in a TKO at SummerSlam.

After a momentous SummerSlam 2016, WWE rumors are abounding that Randy Orton will not be returning to the ring anytime soon because of his tragic head injury — and some are saying that Randy Orton won’t return at all. But are these rumors true? Here’s what we know so far.

WWE rumors about Randy Orton right after SummerSlam. In their match, Orton — who was favored to win over Brock Lesnar — was defeated after a TKO (technical knockout) by the hulking Lesnar. Many commentators who have been following wrestling for some time have compared the Lesnar/Orton match to the match held eleven years ago at SummerSlam between The Edge and Matt Hardy, which ended on a similar bloody note. Certainly, no one expected the match between Lesnar and Orton to end the way it did, with Orton having to get treated for a laceration on his head that required 10 staples to close. Even the live-Tweeting from the SummerSlam stage declared what happened to Orton was an all-out “assault.”

SummerSlam 2016 fullshow results: Brock Lesnar savages Randy Orton, Finn Bálor wins gold AND Dean Ambrose retains World Championship over Dolph Ziggler

Brock Lesnar savagely defeated Randy Orton by technical knockout in a bloodbath of a main event during a crazy WWE SummerSlam. Orton was no match for Brock's vicious assault in the ring. Lesnar got a fast start to the match, ramming Orton into the corner, but Orton came back just as quickly with a big dropkick. Brock's first suplex of the night left Orton laying helpless on the mat, leading to another big German. The mauling continued with Orton getting in little to no offense for long stretches of the match. Orton got a small comeback on the floor, landing a few strikes, but Brock picked him up and threw him through the SmackDown announce table. Orton's SmackDown boss Shane McMahon hit the ring, only to receive an F5 from the vicious and unrepentant Lesnar, in a shocking end to proceedings.

The match started fast and furious, with both men eager to prove themselves. Ziggler seemingly got the advantage when he dropped Ambroseto the floor, but Ambrose returned the favor in kind. Ziggler's best wasn't good enough to win the belt off Ambrose. Ziggler jumped on Ambrose's shoulders and tried a sleeper hold, but Ambrose broke it by tumbling out of the ring, he climbed the ropes, fought off several Ziggler counter tries and came off the top to hit Dirty Deeds, finishing off The Show Off.

Goldberg Talks Possible WWE Return, WWE Hall Of Fame Induction, Being Re-invigorated

Goldberg Talks Possible WWE Return, WWE Hall Of Fame Induction, Being Re-invigorated

As seen above, Brian Fritz of Between the Ropes spoke with Bill Goldberg at the WWE2K17 Launch Party.
Bill Goldberg talks about being in WWE 2K17, being introduced to new generation of fans, a possible return to the WWE for one match or being inducted into the Hall of Fame and much more.
Goldberg says it is cool that there is an entire new generation that realizes through playing WWE 2K17 that he himself was a guy that used to rip other guys heads off. Goldberg likes the matches you can create virtually, including himself versus Brock Lesnar. In regards to another match with Lesnar, virtually or not, Goldberg says he gets to beat his ass again.

Goldberg continues on WWE 2K17, claiming the only reason he did this deal was for his 10 year old kid. Goldberg is grateful to 2K for giving him this opportunity to be such a great father to his kid.

When asked whether he was surprised current wrestling fans know who he was, Goldberg made it clear he was not with his disgust at the question. Goldberg explained he is the hottest free agent in the business, despite being 12 years removed.

In terms of one more match, Goldberg says his juices have been invigorated with the reactions from fans at WWE 2K17 events. However, Goldberg says the ball is not in his court for whether he wrestles again for the WWE.

Goldberg says being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame would be a dream come true and a true honor, but like with having one more match, it is not his decision.

Goldberg does not miss the physicality of wrestling, as he gets more physicality now than ever in practicing Muay Thai 5 times a week. Goldberg does miss the ability to go cause physical pain without being thrown in jail.

Why Eva Marie Violated The WWE Wellness Policy, Eva Issues Statement, Plans To Appeal

Why Eva Marie Violated The WWE Wellness Policy, Eva Issues Statement, Plans To Appeal

TMZ reports that Eva Marie tested positive for Adderall, which caused her to violate the WWE Wellness Policy and receive a 30-day suspension.

Eva tells TMZ that she has a prescription for the drug, the same which caused Roman Reigns to violate the Policy earlier this summer. Eva says she's appealing the suspension.

TMZ says their WWE source claims the medication was not properly approved by the company but Eva insists she has a legit prescription from her doctor. She told TMZ:
"I am disappointed that this suspension has occurred, yet understand and respect that WWE upholds their Wellness Policy to the letter and won't compromise on its integrity. I violated policy by not turning in portions of required paperwork in the time frame WWE Medical deemed timely. I look forward to my return!"

Eva Marie Suspended By WWE For Wellness Violation: Reaction, Updates And Analysis

Eva Marie Suspended By WWE For Wellness Violation: Reaction, Updates And Analysis

Eva Marie has been suspended by WWE for violating the company’s Talent Wellness Program.
announced the suspension Thursday afternoon:
WWE has suspended Natalie Coyle (Eva Marie) for 30 days effective immediately for her first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy.

Eva Marie joins both Alberto Del Rio and Paige, who are a real life couple, as the third superstar to be suspended by WWE over the last two days. The suspensions of both Paige and Del Rio were announced Wednesday but did not officially begin until Thursday, and those suspensions have left questions about the job security of both Del Rio and Paige.
Could Eva Marie’s WWE career be on the line, too?

Eva Marie is perhaps one of the company’s most controversial superstars, largely because she’s widely criticized by hardcore fans for what is deemed to be a complete lack of wrestling ability. The general consensus seems to be that she hasn’t improved much in the ring, won’t ever improve enough to validate her spot in WWE and is instead taking the place of someone who’s more deserving of her position, like NXT’s Bayley.

WWE Raw Results: Winners and Highlights from August 15, 2016

Rusev and Roman Reigns have a battle six days ahead of SummerSlam and a fan storming the ring ruins Finn Balor’s first Demon King entrance on Raw.

Seth delivered some uncharacteric work as he shows up outside of American Bank Center looking for Finn Balor as the Demon King but the buildup is awkward without the two men appearing together.

Rusev and Lana take the center to demand an apology from Roman Reigns . Mich Foley and Stephanie Mc Mohan ask him to leave and he threatens them with the hint of joining Smackdown.

Mick Foley thinks he’s Adam Silver, because he turned the Cesaro vs. Sheamus feud into a Best-of-7 series with the first match starting at SummerSlam.

All in all it was one hell of a confusion!

WWE Discussing Brock Lesnar And Bill Goldberg Altercation For SummerSlam

WWE Discussing Brock Lesnar And Bill Goldberg Altercation For SummerSlam

Earlier today, the pro-wrestling dirt sheets went into a frenzy thanks to a video WWE superstar Brock Lesnar posted to promote ‘WWE 2K17′. Appearing alongside his advocate, Paul Heyman, Brock Lesnar addressed Goldberg by saying “Hey Bill, you’re next”.

The video has been taken down by WWE but can still be found on Lesnar’s Twitter feed:

And while it may seem harmless promotion it appears that, according to my source, WWE is at least discussing a Lesnar/Goldberg altercation and have at least tossed the idea around about having Bill Goldberg address Lesnar, in some capacity, this weekend at SummerSlam.
It’s likely Goldberg could appear via video but WWE creative had recently discussed the possibility of a Goldberg and Lesnar showdown in some way, shape or form.

Before fans get too excited, it’s not a foregone conclusion that the proposed “confrontation” would be to set the stage for a match at ‘WrestleMania’, but could also be for the purpose of creating buzz for the ‘WWE Network’ and ‘WWE 2K17′.

WWE wants people to believe that truly anything can happen at a big event such as SummerSlam and an appearance by Goldberg could help drive that point home.

Sound Off: Who Will Leave WWE SummerSlam With The WWE Universal Championship?

Sound Off: Who Will Leave WWE SummerSlam With The WWE Universal Championship?

WWE SummerSlam is a week from tomorrow. In one of the featured matches on the card, SethRollins faces Finn Balor for the first-ever WWE Universal Championship. Balor has promised to unleash the demon at the event.

Who will leave the event with the title? Who should leave with the belt? Sound off with your predictions in the "Comments" section below.

Becky Lynch comments on Eva Marie post the wardrobe malfunction – says Eva is hardworking

For the big feud in the Women’s division, Eva Marie is entrenched in a program with Becky Lynch, the Irish Lasskicker. The feud has consisted of Marie pulling out of two matches in her debut on Smackdown Live due to an injury and a wardrobe malfunction.

Along with her ridiculous entrance, it’s the best work Marie has done for the WWE in whole. Her heel heat is already resonating with WWE fans, even the ones who didn’t watch WWE NXT.
Becky Lynch quoted - Eva Marie is so hard-working. Yes, she is new. She gets so much flack from fans for being this gorgeous woman who, apparently, they say can’t wrestle, but she puts in the hard work. I love working with talent like that. It’s a challenge for me, but I feel it’s a great spot for me to be in because I can be a leader. I really enjoy that. I remember when I was coming in and having someone to keep you calm and help you through helps. Then you build this confidence. It does help because maybe they don’t have that confidence at first, and you are able to bring them through to a good match. Then they come back, and they are so excited. I absolutely love that.

Dean Ambrose Rips Brock Lesnar BIG TIME

Ambrose wasn’t pleased with his match against Brock Lesnarat WrestleMania 32, which was evident by what he had to say about the feud.

Artistically, Brockdidn’t want to do anything, if we’re going to be perfectly honest. Brock’s gonna Brock.  He’s all about Brock. I had a vision for that match to be the craziest thing imaginable, you know what I mean, and I was trying to pitch everything to everybody and had every idea. I put so much effort in and so much work in, and other people did too, and I was met with laziness.

What does that mean for WWE? - If Lesnar not failed multiple drug tests for UFC, does anyone believe that WWE would be portraying him this way on its programming? NOOOOO!! Lesnar won’t be facing any real discipline from WWE for his drug test failures; this seems like a way to punish him without actually doing so.

WWE Going Overboard With 12 Potential Championships During Brand Split

There was a lot of speculation regarding the WWE World HeavyweightChampionship headed into the WWE Draft. Many wondered whether WWE would allow the world champion to compete on both brands or whether a second world title would be introduced.

But with both brands beginning to come into their own, WWE has not only confirmed a second world championship, but seems to be on the verge of bringing in a whole new fleet.

SethRollins and Finn Bálor will be competing at SummerSlam for the brand new WWE  Universal Championship, while Dean Ambrose and Dolph Ziggler compete for the suddenly diminished WWE World Heavyweight Championship. In the coming weeks, Raw will house the Cruiserweight division, while it is being reported that the SmackDown brand plans on bringing in new championships for the Women’s and tag team division. All this with WWE recently filing a trademark for King of The Ring, which could be yet another paper championship WWE brings into its already saturated fold.

It’s safe to assume the Clash of Champions pay-per-view will run a little long this year.

Even with two separate brands, having so many championships will dilute what it means to be a champion. Dolph Ziggler, who has been damaged goods for quite some time now, is currently the No. 1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Mark Henry, who is 45 and on the verge of retirement, just competed for the United States Championship; and WWE’s answer is to introduce more titles? This is great news for Heath Slater, but bad news for prestige.
